David Barker

David was born and raised in Stirchley, Birmingham. He represented the Brandwood and Kings Heath ward as a councillor from 2022 – 2026. The ward runs alongside Highbury Park, which he grew up walking through.

In Birmingham City Council, he has chaired the Sustainability and Transport and Planning committees, and served on the Trust and Charities and Education committees. David also sits as a Council-appointed representative on the Birmingham Museums Trust. He is passionate about safeguarding our city’s heritage, environment, and culture, broadening its reach to all communities, and expanding our offer to neighbourhoods across the city.

David is also a member of the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner’s advisory panel. Prior to entering elected office, David founded and managed an award-winning baby bank supporting families across Birmingham for over four years, worked as a political campaign manager and in communications.

‘I wanted to use my experience in and out of the council to get involved in a heritage project on my doorstep and give more back to the community I grew up in.

What I like most about the park is its vast feel, how you can walk through it, surrounded by trees, and not see or hear the ambient sounds of urban life. It can be an oasis to reset yourself, or a place to walk with someone and feel you’re the only ones around. ‘ Cllr. David Barker
