‘I studied at the University of Birmingham and have always been aware of its connection to Joseph Chamberlain. The opportunity to become a Trustee gave me the chance to find out more about the Chamberlain family and the role Joseph played in establishing and supporting higher education in Birmingham.

Birmingham is my adopted city, and I have long appreciated the part Joseph Chamberlain played in its political life and social enterprise. My favourite part of Highbury is the public rooms, where it is fascinating to visualise the political gatherings held there during its heyday.’ Deidre Mattison
