Indi Deol is the Founding Director of DESIblitz, the UK’s largest online British Asian magazine. He is also the director behind Aidem Digital CIC, a Social Enterprise and digital media agency, and is dedicated to empowering projects that generate a positive social impact.
Indi is also a board member of Culture Central, the collective voice of the cultural sector in the West Midlands, and is involved in the West Midlands Combined Authority Cultural Leadership Board. Indi is also on the advisory board for Aston Business School, and is a consultant for BFI Film Audience Network.
‘My motivation stems from a deeply held belief in the importance of preserving local heritage and making it accessible to the diverse communities of Birmingham. Highbury Hall, as the former home of Joseph Chamberlain, is a significant part of the city’s story, but its full potential as a community asset has yet to be realised.
As the director of DESIblitz, I’m passionate about cultural storytelling and representation. I wanted to bring my experience in media, community engagement, and digital outreach to Highbury Hall and Park. My goal is to help ensure that this historic site is not just maintained, but actively used and cherished by all of Birmingham’s residents, particularly the younger and more diverse generations who may not yet know its story.
What inspires me most personally is Joseph Chamberlain’s vision for Birmingham, and his focus on civic pride and ‘municipal socialism’. The idea that local government could and should actively improve the lives of its citizens. The concept that a community can work together to create something bigger than itself is profoundly relevant today.’ Indi Deol
