The Hall - Heritage & Community
Highbury Hall, a striking Victorian mansion built in 1878-79 for Joseph Chamberlain, stands proudly in its leafy surroundings. Designed by J. H. Chamberlain (no relation), the Hall is an imposing example of Venetian-Gothic architecture with intricate decorative features inspired by nature.
Today, Highbury Hall is Grade II* listed and cared for by Birmingham City Council in partnership with the Chamberlain Highbury Trust (CHT), a charity dedicated to restoring the estate and sharing its heritage with the people of Birmingham. The Hall welcomes visitors on public Open Days and hosts a variety of events and activities.
Highbury is also available for private hire. Whether you’re planning a heritage-inspired wedding, a milestone celebration or an intimate dinner in a Victorian setting, the Hall offers elegance, privacy and excellent city access. Find out more about hiring the venue here.
The Park - A Living Landscape
Highbury Hall overlooks 33 hectares of beautifully designed grounds originally created in the late 19th century by renowned landscape designer Edward Milner. These gardens are now part of the wider Highbury Park with free public access all year round. Winding paths, terraced gardens and mature trees lead into Highbury Park, a peaceful public green space with woodland walks, open lawns, diverse meadows and wildlife-rich habitats.
Highbury Park is one of Birmingham City Council’s public parks lovingly cared for by Highbury Park Friends, a volunteer group who help look after its trees, wildlife and historic character and share it with others through a range of engaging activities. It is also home to several community organisations, who run activities and training, including Highbury Orchard Community.
The estate hosts a wide range of community activities, from garden restoration and woodland conservation to family sessions, youth programmes and seasonal events. Festivals, workshops and heritage-focused activities bring together neighbours, visitors and volunteers throughout the year.
