Explore off the Paths

Today, we decided to go off the path, behind the duck pond. We had to carefully traverse the narrow path of rocks and mud. As we admired the pond from a new perspective, a moorhen flew past, its wings blowing air onto us. This was a thrilling experience to have, and would have only occurred if we made the move to travel off the path. This gave us a unique experience and encouraged us to explore further off the Highbury path.

Then we discovered a row of trees creating a natural route in between the trees. We decided to run down this path which made for an exhilarating yet refreshing adventure, off the path. This showed us that there is lots of fun to be had exploring Highbury, we just need to find it.

Soon after, we came across a small clearing where the ground was covered in fallen leaves, crunching loudly beneath our feet. The sunlight filtered through the branches above, casting shifting patterns on the ground, and for a moment we stopped to take it all in. It felt peaceful and hidden, like a place not many people noticed when they stayed on the main paths. Discovering this quiet spot made us realise how much of Highbury can be missed when you don’t take the time to wander and look more closely.

As we continued exploring, we followed the sound of birdsong until we reached a slightly raised bank overlooking the grass below. From there we could see people walking along the usual paths, unaware of the little routes and spaces tucked away nearby. It felt satisfying to know we had found something different, simply by being curious and willing to step off the path. By the time we headed back, we felt more adventurous than when we had started, and eager to return to Highbury to discover even more hidden corners.
