Visitor Guidelines

Respectful Conduct

We expect all visitors to behave in a considerate and respectful manner. Chamberlain Highbury Trust does not tolerate abuse, harassment, or violence towards any visitor, volunteer, staff member, tutor, artist, or performer. Anyone contravening this policy may be asked to leave.

Safety & Emergency Procedures

• In the event of an alarm or emergency, please follow instructions from staff immediately.
• Highbury Hall evacuation routes and exits will be clearly indicated. Do not re-enter the building until advised it is safe to do so.
• Guests at events should gather at the far end of the lawn.
• If you notice anything that may pose a safety risk, please alert CHT staff or volunteers.

Families & Children

• Children and young people are welcome at Highbury.
• We recommend that all children are accompanied by an adult aged 16+ unless attending an event where supervision is not required.
• Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult (16+) inside Highbury Hall.
• Children under three may attend events and tours free of charge.
• Breastfeeding is welcome anywhere on-site.

Animals

• Only Assistance Dogs are permitted inside Highbury Hall.
• Highbury Park is dog-friendly. Please ensure that:
  • Dogs are kept under control and within sight.
  • Dogs do not enter marked children’s play areas, or any areas restricted due to events or activities.
  • All dog waste is picked up immediately and disposed of appropriately.

Personal Belongings

• Please keep your belongings with you at all times.
• Coats may be left in the cloakroom area off the main hall during Open Days and events, at your own risk.
• Chamberlain Highbury Trust accepts no responsibility for lost or stolen items.

Refreshments

• Refreshments are available to purchase during Open Days and events.
• Only alcoholic beverages purchased on-site may be consumed.
• Visitors are not allowed to bring hot meals that have not been purchased onsite into Highbury Hall.

Smoking & Vaping

Smoking, e-cigarettes, and vaping devices are not permitted inside Highbury Hall.

Noise & Courtesy

To maintain a calm and enjoyable environment:

• Please avoid excessive noise, particularly inside the Hall.
• Audio playback on personal devices is not permitted indoors.
• Mobile phones should be set to silent during tours and events.
• Please avoid disrupting performances, talks, or guided activities.

Photography & Filming

Personal Use

• Photography and video recording for personal use are permitted throughout the Hall and Park unless otherwise indicated.
• Restrictions may apply during certain performances or events, please follow staff guidance.

Commercial Use

• Commercial, professional, or promotional photography or filming requires prior written permission from Chamberlain Highbury Trust.

Please contact the Trust in advance for enquiries or bookings.

Event Start Times & Late Entry

• Events begin promptly.
• Late entry will only be permitted during a suitable break, where one exists.
• For events without a break, late entry may not be possible.
• Latecomers are not eligible for refunds.

Conservation, Environmental & Wildlife Protection

Highbury Hall is an important historic house. To help us preserve it for future generations:

• Please do not touch paintings, artefacts, or original furnishings unless invited to do so.
• Please remain within publicly accessible areas and do not cross any barriers or enter closed rooms.
• Highbury Grounds and Park contain important natural habitats and historic landscape features. Please help us conserve and care for it by:
• Obeying the by-laws prohibiting the shooting of firearms, discharging missiles, setting off fireworks or lighting fires.
• Not picking plants, damaging vegetation, or entering protected or planted areas.
• Not sewing seeds, or planting bulbs, or plants without prior agreement with the Head Gardener.
• Avoiding feeding wildlife, as it disrupts natural behaviour and can cause harm.
• Not damaging park benches, notice boards, or other features.
• Not climbing fences, walls, trees or other structures situated in the Park.
• Disposing of all litter responsibly or taking it home with you.

Disturbance or Unsafe Behaviour

If a member of our team believes you are causing a disturbance, contravening our policies, breaching these guidelines, or endangering yourself, others, or the historic property or grounds, you may be asked to leave.
